Today Mari and I tackle a challenge proposed by one of our subscribers. The challenge is to use a Christmas themed collection on non-holiday photos. I must admit that when I saw this challenge I did not want to do it. I have a tough time documenting holiday layouts with holiday collections (although I don't have a problem buying the collections, lol). However, I will say that I am pleased with the end result. I decided on using the Wish Season collection by Fancy Pants. I went through the ephemera and pulled out things that weren't overtly themed. I also pulled a few embellishments from my stash as well.
My daughter is a character. She is such a fun girl and makes even the mundane, little things a fun experience. Shopping in Target with her is always an adventure. This night she was finding the most random things like this taco pinata and being super silly and I am so thankful I got a few pictures of her goofy personality.
The die cuts are from the same collection, the gold hearts are Studio Calico, and the "Love This" puffy sticker is from Evaliscious.
The embossed carstock added a bit of interest to this page as well. I always love the look of it when I use it. I tried to be a bit more creative with the title and think I succeeded. It's a bit random, but it fits the theme of the photos.

The older I get the more and more I start to appreciate the little things in life. A good afternoon nap is high up on my list of things that I love. I was able to get a photo of Romeo snuggling up with me one afternoon, and thought that the August main kit from My Creative Scrapbook would be great to document it. Using my large square punch I cut out several squares from the papers in the kit and arranged them on the page. I lightly adhered them with my ATG until I could stitch them down. I did use my ruler to mark off the middle of the page, and tried to make sure that the four corners were the same distance apart from the edge of the cardstock. The rest of the squares I just eyeballed the placement.
To make the background look more like a quilt, I stitched diagonally across the squares. In person the detail is amazing, and I am a bit disappointed that it doesn't show up as well in the photo.
Since the doily that was included in the embellishment pack was too large for this cluster, I pulled out my Martha Stewart pinked circle punch and cut it down to size. This also repeats the pinked circle in the upper left hand cluster as well. I love it when my design elements coordinate because the page looks more cohesive.
Although this layout has nothing to do with a typewriter, I thought that it made the perfect embellishment. Yes, life is grand when you have a chance to take a nap and you have a pet to keep you company :)

I have my third layout using the main kit from My Creative Scrapbook kit club. This week I decided to do something a bit different and go for a "clean" mixed media background. The colors in the photo and the embellishments were my inspiration for the mist colors that I used to color the modeling paste. The photo has been sitting on my desk for quite a while now. It is dark and has been somewhat challenging for me in choosing papers and embellishments. Once I decided to make my own background incorporating the colors of the tricycle the paper choices were easy.
Taping the stencil down to my work surface helped me to keep the colors separated while I was applying the paste through the stencil. I used Heidi Swapp mists to color the modeling paste, but you can use watercolors and acrylic paint as well.
Her sweet face and the expression is why I wanted to get this photo on a layout. It's just one of the many that tug at my heart strings :)
I kept the embellishments to a minimum since the background is fairly busy. Outlining the paper layers helps them stand out against the mixed media.

Today I have my second layout that I created for My Creative Scrapbook using their August main kit. I am sure that if I went through my albums and looked at the titles of the layouts that quite a few would be "love". It's generic, unoriginal, and so easy to put on a page, especially when it is on a chipboard sheet. So I did...and I will do it again :) For this layout I really wanted to showcase a mix of the papers that were included with the kit. The woodgrain is one of my favorites and it is such a pretty shade.
The kit included the Fancy Pants flair and I thought that this one was perfect to pair with the clouds in this cluster.
The title is clustered on a gingham doily that can be found in the ephemera pack. I also cut a thin strip of the woodgrain paper and placed it underneath the title to cover the bit of "trapped" space under the letters O and V.
Stitching adds the final touch to this layout. These papers somewhat reminded me of a quilt which inspired a layout that you will see in a couple of weeks. So I thought that it was only fitting to stitch on some of the paper layers.

Good morning my friends! Today I have my first layout for My Creative Scrapbook kit club using their August main kit. This kit is full of Fancy Pants with a bit of Illustrated Faith thrown in and is just gorgeous! This photo is of my daughter after I told her she could have one more gummy worm. This is what she pulled out of the package, and no I didn't allow her to eat that entire thing :) Just because I know someone is thinking it....I was in my neighborhood and stopped to take the photo. I don't like to use my phone and drive and above all I want to set a good example to my kids.
The background was looking a bit plain so I added some mists and used a bit of texture paste through a heart stencil. I did not want it to compete with the bright colors of the papers, so I purposefully kept the tones muted.
This title is perfect for this photo :)

I really had a lot of fun being a guest designer for Clique Kits in January. I made five layouts with the kit and some add-ons and still have quite a bit left over that I will incorporate in my stash. My last layout may be one of my favorites made with this kit simply because of the story told. I had this layout in mind but couldn't figure out exactly how I wanted to arrange the photos until I saw a sketch by Ashley Horton. It was the perfect way to get all of my photos on one page while keeping the layout clean. I can't find the picture of the sketch at the moment, but I do show the sketch in the beginning of the process video. I used quite a bit of the labels, ephemera, and puffy stickers to make this page. My goal though was to maintain a clean look on the layout even though I was using quite a bit of the ephemera. The yellow doilies are by Doodlebug and add the perfect pop of yellow to the layout.
I used a combination of alpha stickers for the title. The small tile are Teresa Collins, the yellow are some old Basic Grey that have been in my stash for a very long time, and the red are by Seven.
I love the acrylic origami elephant (a Clique Kits exclusive) and thought he made the perfect addition to one of the clusters. Since there are so many different words and font styles, I decided to print my journaling out with a typewriter font. I did not want to introduce my handwriting on to this page, and honestly most of my journaling is hand written so I don't feel the need to do so on this page.

If you have followed me for a while, you will know that I am trying to get more stories told on my pages. My daughter is almost 14 years old, and it is just an amazing experience to watch her mature. I had been thinking about how I wanted to tell this story and when I saw the butterfly cut file offered this month I knew just how I was going to tell it. I love for elements on my pages to contribute to the stories being told so the butterfly was the perfect choice. I used my silhouette and cut the file out. I enlarged it so that it would be a huge focal point. I chose to print my photo in black and white. I didn't want to lose my photo on the page and knew that backing the different places of the butterfly with patterned paper would be a lot of color on the layout. So by printing the photo in black and white, it offers a nice contrast to the patterned papers behind the cut file.
I used my silhouette to cut the title out. I usually cut all of my files in white and then color them with inks, mists, or gelatos. I used Tim Holtz distress inks to color the title. I love the yellow twine that came in the kit and thought that it would make cute antennas for the butterfly. I had to play with it a bit to get it the way I wanted it to look. I used Dylusions white and Heidi Swapp teal mist on the background, and then glued sequins around the page.
I did not want my journaling to be on the page. It is something that I don't mind if people read, but since it is personal to Emily, I decided to tuck it behind the photo on a tag that can easily be pulled out. I layered vellum behind the photo and that is something that I do often. I like the bit of texture and dimension that it brings without adding another color or pattern to the layout. As I was looking through the kit I noticed that the packaging of the ephemera had a pretty pale aqua stripe so I used that as well as a paper layer! Don't overlook your embellishment packages...often they will have subtle designs and colors that work well with the collection that you are using. I also popped the photo slightly off the page for added dimension as well.
Before I adhered the butterfly down to the page, I sewed around the edges of the entire cut file and around the layout. I have been on a sewing kick lately and thought that this would be a nice touch to complete the butterfly. I love how it turned out! Be sure to check out the other members of the blog hop. I had so much fun with this layout! This was definitely a push out of my comfort zone and I love how it turned out. I used a member exclusive kit file (November kit) and backed it with several papers from the kit. The graphic look of these papers worked beautifully with the cut file.
Everything that I used on this layout can be found in the main kit, or as add-ons in the Clique Kits store. I thought the computer-like smiley face was perfect to add underneath my journaling on the tag.
It was definitely a labor of love, but I think that the stitching made the layout. It did take some time, but some things are worth it.

I've had a lot of fun playing with the Alegria kit from Clique Kits. For the new year I'm challenging myself to think outside my box, mix it up, get out of my comfort zone and to have fun while creating and these papers certainly inspired me to do it. I knew as soon as I saw this paper that I wanted to use that top quote in some fashion. When I was shuffling papers around and placed it with the yellow triangle paper, felt like I hit the jackpot. I love the combo!!
These pictures are silly ones that my daughter and I did at a theme park while waiting for her brother to get off a roller coaster that she didn't want to go on. I love these and I think that the next time I see a booth like this, we'll pop back in.
I really like the sayings that are on the ephemera in this collection. They are perfect for everyday photos and so easy to use.
Everything except the vellum and cut files were included in the January 2016 kit. The cut files are exclusive to Clique Kit and were in the December 2015 kits, but I know that the silhouette store has several leaves and flourishes that are similar.
