Today I am participating in the Counterfeit Kit Blog Hop, and this will be my last post for them this month as their October Guest Designer. I've included the full list of participants and their links so you can easily hop along and join in on the fun. http://www.counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.com
Today's layout that I am sharing was created for the third challenge that was titled Playing Dress Up. This challenge involves doing anything to dress up your layout. You can choose to disguise it by adding paint or mixed media work, or bling it up by added stitching and sequins. I chose to use distress inks and mist to dress up the background along with adding gold foiled diecuts and glitter Thickers.
In my stash kit I had a few scraps of the gold polka dot vellum so I took a small piece and layered it with the paper layers behind the photo for some extra bling.
The floral diecuts were on my list to use with this kit. They are just so pretty and I was pleased that I was able to work them onto this page. Using my pretty things on a layout is so much better than hoarding them :)
The gold glitter Thickers were my starting point for this challenge. I love the font and the glitter, and knew that I had this photo of me and my husband that would be perfect for this page. Sometimes the photos influence the products I use, and sometimes the products dictate the photos I choose to scrap. I scrap both ways and love them both.
I have truly enjoyed playing along with the Counterfeit Kit Club this month. It has been a great way to dig into my stash and use some older products. I have a process video for this layout as well if you'd like to take a peek. Thanks so much for joining me and I hope you have a great day!
Today's layout with the Counterfeit Kit challenge is one that I love and I had the perfect paper in my stash kit. One of my favorite things is to fussy cut shapes and flowers out of patterned paper and use them as embellishments. It is such a great way to stretch a kit or collection, especially if you are low on coordinating embellishments. While it may seem a bit strange to document a cooked turkey, cooking it was a really big deal. My mother is not a good cook. She grew up in the country with fresh eggs and plenty of vegetables, and not a lot of meat. So growing up, whenever I ate chicken or turkey and it was dry, I thought that was how it was supposed to taste. Boy was I wrong, and I am so glad that a friend talked me into taking over the Thanksgiving meal. Here is the recipe in case you want to give it a try, and I will also say that using a fresh and not frozen turkey makes it out of this world.
The leaf paper clips are one of my favorite embellishments in the kit, so I was super happy that I could include one on this photo. I surprised myself by matting the photo with pink patterned paper, but I found that it really complemented the pink leaves of the flowers and the photo itself.
Last year I found these gold leaves in the Target dollar spot and did not use a single one. They make the perfect addition to this cluster and help to tie in the gold Thickers as well.
My journaling is pretty straightforward, and I may make another page with the actual recipe. I haven't decided though, because I may end up creating a layout on my entire dinner with the recipes used. Decisions, decisions...
My process video is linked below. I encourage you to visit Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog and see how other DT members tackled this challenge. Have a wonderful day!
This month I am the guest designer for Counterfeit Kit Challenge! Our inspiration is the beautiful new collection Indigo Hills from PinkFresh Studios. If you haven't ever played along with this group, the idea is to pull together a kit from your stash using a kit or collection as the inspiration piece. I chose the pretty blue color in the alphas as my inspiration, however I didn't have anything quite the same shade. So I decided to still use the color blue, just a different hue. Since it is fall and I am ready for cooler weather, I pulled out what I have of Pink Paislee's Cedar Lane collection as the starting point of my kit.
Several of my embellishments were open making it difficult to take good pictures of them, so I am going to list what I included in the kit:
Pink Paislee Cedar Lane 6x6 and 12x12 papers
Pink Paislee Cedar Lane leaf clips
Pink Paislee Cedar Lane ephemera
Pink Paislee Cedar Lane puffy stickers
Pink Paislee Cedar Lane arrows
Pink Paislee Cedar Lane washi tape booklet
Pink Paislee Cedar Lane fabric tags Jen Hadfield DIY Home stickers
Jen Hadfield DIY Home die cuts
Jen Hadfield DIY Home washi strip booklet
Simple Stories wood veneer
Miscellaneous flair, sequins, and paper clips
Recollections puffy stickers Studio Calico tile alphas
tags
doilies
enamel dots
Here are the Design Team members in case you would like to see what they have chosen for their kits this month. I hope that you play along this month and make your own counterfeit kit!
I have two process videos to share today, one for My Creative Scrapbook and the other for the Crafty Maven Getaway channel. First up is my final layout using the July main kit from MCS. This layout is a bit different for me and layouts that I usually create, but sometimes it's fun to step outside of your creative comfort zone. The bright colors of this kit are so fun and I wanted to showcase them as focal features on the page. I chose the floral as my jumping off point and then selected the pink and orange as my other two main patterns. I'm not a fan of orange, but this orange polka dot has won me over :) It is the perfect shade and is so much fun with the whimsical polka dots. I decided to place the pink strip on top because I felt like the orange polka dot has more visual weight and thus would ground the layout. Outlining the layers helps to make the patterns stand out and pulls in the black on the Hello banner.
Often I struggle when it comes to using banners on my page. I found that it was so easy to use this when I had the loose grid on the page. It felt like it belonged in that corner and the chipboard title nestled perfectly underneath.
Embossing is a technique that I just don't do enough! I always love the results and the green helps to pull in the few other green accents that I have on the page.
I decided to outline the banner as well so that it wouldn't get lost on the bold orange paper. This kit came with so many embellishments! I used quite a few on all of my layouts and I still have a ton left.
Here is my process video if you'd like to take a peek.
Next up is my layout for the Crafty Maven channel. The mood board this week is so bright and fun. My initial thought was the Summer Daydreams collection by PhotoPlay. Sadly, I don't have it so I used the Sunshine & Happiness collection by Simple Stories.
Disclaimer: I used a sketch for inspiration and I cannot find it at the moment. I don't like to use things without giving credit, so if I find it I will link it :)
Again, I chose to outline the paper layers so that they would really stand out. The 4x4 card makes the perfect title and I thought it was perfect for these photos.
I love these colors together. For added interest I looped some thread in each of the clusters and chose colors that weren't as dominant.
This girl is one of my favorite images in this collection and I thought she was perfect for this page. I need to look up the date of these photos and then I will finish this journaling spot. I am a procrastinator when it comes to things like this, but I am trying to get better :) Here's a link to my video. I'd love for you to check it out. Have a wonderful day my friends!
It's Wednesday and that means I have another layout and process video to share with you today for My Creative Scrapbook. I am loving this month's kit! I have some pictures from several summers ago and pulled out this one of me and the kids. I'm usually the photographer so it's nice to make a layout that has a photo with me in it. Now there is actual proof that I was on vacation as well :)
Two of my favorite papers in the kit are the striped and the small floral. They just made me happy looking at them. Everything on this page is from the kit with the exception of the doilies and the thread.
If you have been following me for any length of time you know that titles can be my nemesis. I love it when I can use things in the kit to come up with a title that is good for the page. There really isn't a lot of journaling that I can add, so Happy Memory became the perfect generic title.
I have a really bad habit. Each year I say that I am going to break it, and I have not yet. I am the one that has a stack of layouts that I need to add journaling and dates on. I have gotten much better though. The main problem is that the dates are not printed on the back of the photos. I print at Costco and have not been able to find where I can have them print the date on the back. That would solve so much of the problem. Right now I only have a pile of about 15 layouts...that size is much more manageable and I have found that when I want to do something scrappy I look up the dates of the photos and complete those pages. I tell you all of this so that you will know that this label will have the date stamped on it...sometime soon. Okay, I will put it on my list to do today because now that I have put my scrappy issue out there it seems pretty lazy :)
If you are still with me, here is a link to the process video. Thanks so much for joining me and I hope that you have a wonderful day!
Hello friends, I am back with another layout to share using the July kit from My Creative Scrapbook kit club. I chose to focus on the pastel colors of this kit and scrap a page of my daughter and one of her friends dressed up for their school dance. If you follow me on Pinterest you might have noticed that I pinned a bunch of layouts and sketches with circles. Circle layouts are trending, and I decided to be brave and take a stab at a layout with circles...including my picture. Cutting my photo in a circle was a big deal for me...I know that it sounds silly. However, I started scrapping in the height of Creative Memories and the debut of their circle cutting system and EVERYTHING was cut into circles. It has taken me a long time to get over my phobia of circles, and I am so happy with the way this layout turned out.
I used my Shimmerz watercolors and the packaging technique to make the background. I decided to keep my design on a diagonal to help me from feeling overwhelmed with where to place the circles. I think that it also helped that I had pre-cut several circles out of coordinating papers in different sizes. It made it so much easier to swap circles out and make sure that the patterns were separated.
The peach and aqua just screamed for a bit of gold so I added gold stitching and gold Heidi Shine mist for a little pizzazz.
I folded over the ribbon trim that came in the kit and stitched it down with gold thread. Good thing that I don't mind that the ribbon is not straight :) I think that it adds to the charm and helps to anchor the title. To complete the layout I added a few embellishments on the clusters and threaded the buttons with gold thread.
I have a process video if you'd like to take a peek at how it came together.
I have two layouts and process videos to share today, one for My Creative Scrapbook and the other for the Crafty Maven Getaway. I'm going to start with the layout for My Creative Scrapbook. This will be the last layout that I am sharing using their June main kit. I still have a lot of this kit left, but time just ran away from me. I could easily make another 3-4 layouts. My inspiration for this page came from the Thickers that were in the kit. I love to use words as journaling prompts and for my titles (especially since I'm not super creative with my titles). Right Now can be used for so many prompts....documenting a pregnancy, a baby's development, a list of your favorite television shows...it truly is one of the best prompts that I can think of for me to start a page. I chose to make a page about my daughter's back to school shopping for her first year in middle school (sixth grade). Oh my gracious how her style changed in just a few short months. I am so glad that I thought to document this aspect of her life, and I would love to have this glimpse in my own life as a pre-teen.
It is so hard to photograph silver. The heart stickers in two of the clusters are so pretty in real life. The photos just don't do them justice. Once again, I fussy cut these flowers. What can I say...I am predictable when it comes to floral papers :)
I loved this chipboard stamp from the moment I saw it and knew that it would be perfect for this page. I layered the flowers for a bit of dimension and so that the butterfly could be tucked underneath.
Here is my process video if you'd like to take a peek.
My next layout share is for the Crafty Maven. I'm up on Free Flow Wednesday and the mood board this week is incredible! I chose to work with the pineapple theme since I have been wanting to redo my Honeymoon album. I love the bright colors of this mood board and the shoes reminded me of the luau photos that I wanted to get onto a page...a page that I really liked.
I need to say that as a general rule I don't remake layouts. However, if I don't like what I have done, and if I don't enjoy the album, why keep it?!?! I would much rather take the time to remake a layout, use supplies that I love, and tell the story that I want to tell rather than keep a page just because it is done. Everything that I used on this layout is from Authentique's Utopia line (except for enamel dots and Heidi Shine). It's perfect for tropical photos and the quality of their paper is outstanding.
My original title was Luau...because I could not remember which luau we went to while I was making the album back in 2002. Thank goodness for the internet! I was able to do a bit of research, and within minutes found the traditional luau and the location. It makes for a much better title.
I have some other photos from this luau of the dancers wearing red, so I chose these accents to tie the pages together.
Here is a link to the video on my channel. I also have it posted onto the Crafty Maven channel and would link it there but blogger will not let me. I hope that you enjoy these process videos and have a great day!
I love this line Life in Color by Simple Stories, and was excited when I learned that the June main kit from My Creative Scrapbook had several pieces of the collection. It is fabulous and I was inspired by one of the cut-apart sheets to scrap the photo of my daughter and her friend. They were both in yearbook together this past year, and often they would get assignments and need to go out and take pictures. They took the silly photo of their shadows and I fell in love with it as soon as I saw it. I decided to keep this design simple. I have used this layout design before and loved the way that it turned out. I find that by adding chipboard elements and stitching that it helps keep the layout from looking "flat". It's relatively simple to create, and once I decided on the placement, the page flew together.
I decided not to journal on this layout, but may go back and make a note on the back with her friend's name. I felt like the quote said everything and more than I could possibly think of to say. It's perfect for this artistic and fun photo.
I outlined around the "Today" letter stickers, and stitched around the photo and the 4x6 card. I felt like the whites were getting lost on the cardstock and it helped that part of the title to stand out more on the page.
The black stitching also adds a bit of weight and contrast to the page. I had so much fun making this page. It's a bit different than my usual layouts and I really enjoyed the process and the end result. I have a process video if you'd like to take a peek. Have a wonderful scrappy day!
I'm so excited to be back with My Creative Scrapbook kit club for another month as their guest designer. This month their main kit is full of Simple Stories Life in Color. I am a sucker for a diagonal stripe, so when I saw this yellow and white stripe I fell in love. I've had these pictures on my desk waiting for inspiration and when this kit came to my door inspiration struck :) One of my favorite go-to designs is to cut a sheet of paper 4x12 inches and place it along the top of the page. I love patterned paper and like to see it on my layouts. Don't get me wrong. Layering papers is a beautiful thing, and I will do that as well. The title is mixed with fonts from the Simple Stories sticker sheet and the Amy Tangerine Thickers that came in the kit. The pop of black is perfect with this kit and really makes a bold statement on the layout.
Black stitching just helped to give more emphasis on the title and added a bit of texture to the layout. I love the whimsical look that the zig zag stitching gives to the title. It also helped to anchor the title and gave me a great spot to start my journaling.
The camera was the perfect accent for this cluster. Cameras are always perfect to add to a scrapbooking layout, so if you ever get stuck on embellishment ideas, choose cameras. The kit came with the Simple Stories clear stickers. This is my first time using them and I really enjoyed using them.
I'm going to show you now how I fixed my boo-boo. I usually journal on my page after I take pictures for my DT work, and for reasons just like the one that I am getting ready to show you. I made a mistake and I wrote a word twice. Oops! I looked through the kit and found some black arrow stickers, but they did not cover up the mistake in its entirety. So I went to my wood veneer stash and found the perfect size arrow. Fortunately where I made the mistake was on the edge and the bottom row, so the arrow just put a bit of emphasis on the journaling. I also chose two small wood veneer shapes to put in the other clusters. I left the wood veneer plain because the wood theme was already on the page, and the color was good as well.
I have a process video if you'd like to take a peek.
Today I have my fourth layout using the May main kit from My Creative Scrapbook kit club. I have had this picture of Romeo in a pile to be scrapped for quite a while and thought that these papers would be perfect for this photo.
The black floral paper is another one of my favorites. The small floral is beautiful and I love the black especially paired with the gingham.
I love the butterfly paper and how sweet the butterflies look once they are fussy cut from the paper. I added a pop dot under the wings so that they wouldn't go flat once they are added into my album.
I love the pink fringe paper that was included in the kit. I don't have fringe scissors so I just used my regular scissors and cut the fringe with the pattern. I did sew across the top of the fringe for an added touch.
I used my Tim Holtz die to cut out the tag and the reinforcer. The heart embellishment I made a few layouts back and was able to use it on this page. I love gingham and the black and white offers such a great contrast to the pale pinks and aquas.
I have a process video if you are interested in taking a peek.
I have a couple stacks of pictures that I want to get onto a layout. Some with stories that need to be told, and some just because I love them. I really need to organize them, but let's not go there today :) When I saw this kit from My Creative Scrapbook kit club, I immediately thought of these sweet baby pictures that were in this stack of photos. I couldn't really think of any stories or journaling that I wanted to have with this layout, so my focus was just on creating a sweet layout for these sweet photos. Each month there is a sketch provided as well, so I decided to use the sketch for this layout as well.
I stayed pretty close to the sketch, but added my twist on the layout. That is the beauty of sketches...you can follow it exactly, or use it as a jumping off point and then tweaking it to make it your own.
The black gingham paper is one of my favorite prints. I didn't want to overwhelm the layout and thought that the thin strip added a sweet touch and helped to balance out the page.
The butterfly paper is one of my favorite papers of all time. I have enjoyed sprinkling these butterflies on all of my layouts with this month's kit. I added some machine stitching around the edge of the pink patterned paper as well, because that's one of the things that I love to do on my pages.
I have a process video if you'd like to take a peek at my process.
