My darling Romeo...

Today I have my fourth layout using the May main kit from My Creative Scrapbook kit club. I have had this picture of Romeo in a pile to be scrapped for quite a while and thought that these papers would be perfect for this photo.

The black floral paper is another one of my favorites. The small floral is beautiful and I love the black especially paired with the gingham.

I love the butterfly paper and how sweet the butterflies look once they are fussy cut from the paper. I added a pop dot under the wings so that they wouldn't go flat once they are added into my album.

I love the pink fringe paper that was included in the kit. I don't have fringe scissors so I just used my regular scissors and cut the fringe with the pattern. I did sew across the top of the fringe for an added touch.

I used my Tim Holtz die to cut out the tag and the reinforcer. The heart embellishment I made a few layouts back and was able to use it on this page. I love gingham and the black and white offers such a great contrast to the pale pinks and aquas.

I have a process video if you are interested in taking a peek.

Another Scrap the Challenge layout

I am really loving this series with Mari and I hope that you are enjoying it as well. Today's layout we decided to use our stash kit and scraplift a layout that we had previously made. I decided to use this layout for several reasons.

I was using the same size photo, I love the overall design, and I wanted to use a lot of items from my stash kit. Here is my finished layout. I stayed pretty true to the overall design and love the way that the layout turned out.

I added some gold zig zag stitching to a couple of places on the layout to repeat the gold elements on the page.

I absolutely adore all of the layers under the photo and the frame.

I added some light modeling paste through a stencil to create additional interest on the background. I love the look of white on white.

This embellishment cluster is my absolute favorite on this page. All of the layers just work perfectly with one another and the stitching is the cherry on top!

I have a process video if you'd like to take a peek at the process. If you have an idea that you would like us to try, please be sure and leave us a comment.

My Sweet Baby....

I have a couple stacks of pictures that I want to get onto a layout. Some with stories that need to be told, and some just because I love them. I really need to organize them, but let's not go there today :)

When I saw this kit from My Creative Scrapbook kit club, I immediately thought of these sweet baby pictures that were in this stack of photos. I couldn't really think of any stories or journaling that I wanted to have with this layout, so my focus was just on creating a sweet layout for these sweet photos. Each month there is a sketch provided as well, so I decided to use the sketch for this layout as well.

I stayed pretty close to the sketch, but added my twist on the layout. That is the beauty of sketches...you can follow it exactly, or use it as a jumping off point and then tweaking it to make it your own.

The black gingham paper is one of my favorite prints. I didn't want to overwhelm the layout and thought that the thin strip added a sweet touch and helped to balance out the page.

The butterfly paper is one of my favorite papers of all time. I have enjoyed sprinkling these butterflies on all of my layouts with this month's kit. I added some machine stitching around the edge of the pink patterned paper as well, because that's one of the things that I love to do on my pages.

I have a process video if you'd like to take a peek at my process.

My Creative Scrapbook

Today I have posted my second process video using the May main kit from My Creative Scrapbook kit club. I wanted a companion page to the layout I posted last week, this time with a picture of both of my kids. Photos like this I don't always have a story or any journaling that I want to include, so it's nice to not have to worry where I am going to journal.

The woodgrain works beautifully with the pier in the background and it also adds a bit of a masculine feel to the layout.

I had fussy cut some butterflies right away when I received the kit because I knew that I would use them on several, if not all of the layouts I created with the kit.

The Thickers that come in the kit are some of my favorite ever! It's one of those things where I feel like you get your money's worth.

I am in love with the fringe trend right now so I had to use a few layers under the photo. It's such a fun touch to add to the layout. I have a process video if you are interested in taking a peek. Thanks so much and I hope you have a great day :)

iNSD weekend...

I am part of a huge YouTube hop that Erica from Clique Kits put together called Scrap Your Heart Out. Erica has put a lot of work into this and I think that it is going to be a big success for her. I am just over the moon to be lumped into a hop with some of my scrappy crushes :)

I chose to work with some Felicity Jane products for this layout. I have a few of her kits and have just put them all together in an iris container. Her kits tend to work well with one another so it's just easier for me to store them this way. I chose the woodgrain paper as my inspiration along with the photo. The pier in the background is beautiful and I wanted to play up on the color and the texture. I trimmed it down to 11.5 inches square and distressed the edges of the paper. After I adhered it I curled up the edges for a bit more interest.

I wanted a bit of aqua as an accent color and found this vellum heart in my FJ stash. I thought that it would work well and chose to layer it with a phrase and some enamel dots.

The title is definitely one of my favorite things about this layout. I chose a block font for a couple of reasons. First, I didn't want the font to compete with the "love" paper. Second, it's much easier to stitch a wider letter. If the letter is really thin you run the risk of poking your holes too close together and creating one big hole that is hard to cover.

I decided to use my Shimmerz watercolors and a waterbrush to add a bit of color to a few of the words. The effect is so pretty and the pictures just don't do it justice. I chose white embroidery floss because I wanted the layout to be light and airy. The heart stencil is from a FJ kit as well. I like to repeat elements on my page and knew that this would add just the right touch to this cluster.

My boy is growing up and I'm so proud of the young man that he is, yet when I look at him I still see him as my baby. My journaling touches on this, and in the end I just want him to know just how much he is adored.

Scrap the Challenge

I have my first layout made with the stash kit that Mari and I have put together...and I need to say this. It has been really fun and gratifying putting this kit together and making my first layout. I will be doing this again! For our first layout we challenged ourselves to use circles and machine stitching. I am a bit scared of circles so when I saw a few layouts with this same ruffle theme, I chose that as my style and I love the way that the layout turned out.

I used a circle die and cut out several 2 inch circles from my Notes and Things 6x6 paper pad. I always cut out more than I think I will need because I try to make sure that the patterns are varied. I also don't want to stop mid-way to cut more, and I don't mind having the extra.

I stitched through the circles with gold thread and love this little detail. There are a few paper layers under the photo, but I did not want them to compete with the circles so I kept them to a minimum.

The frame wasn't initially in my stash kit, but as I was packing for a crop I stumbled upon them and since they were Notes and Things frames, I added them to the kit. The cork hearts and letters added another texture and brought more warmth to the layout for the perfect touch.

I have been busy....

I have a couple of things to share today. First I have a new process video up with my first layout using the May Main kit from My Creative Scrapbook  kit club. I absolutely adore Maggie Holmes so this kit was perfect for me. I chose a picture of my daughter from last year's vacation because of the colors highlighted in the photo.  Floral patterned papers are some of my favorites to work with, so choosing this black floral was an easy choice. Gingham prints also have a special place in my heart, and I love that her new collection has both a pink and black gingham. Before I actually started to create my pages I went ahead and cut the cut-apart sheet and fussy cut some butterflies. I knew that I would be using them with my layouts and did not want to stop mid-way through my process to do so.

I layered two butterflies on top of one another to create a dimensional look. I love the hints of yellow on the butterflies and how it pulls out the yellow in the background of the photo.

I decided to layer the fringe paper on top of one another and stitched through the pink layer for some added texture.

The heart embellishment I made from the papers in the kit using a Recollections heart punch. I need to get more gold glitter paper, so I decided to make my own and replicate some of the embellishments in this collection. I used embossing powder to create my own strip and it worked fabulously!

Here's a link to my process video if you'd like to take a peek.

My other news is that I am participating in the Scrap Your Heart Out YouTube hop. There are some fabulous ladies on this hop and for me to see my name along with some of my scrappy crushes is almost too much for me to handle! I'm still on cloud 9 :)

My video will be up on the 8th and to further celebrate iNSD I will be posting a video every day until May 14th!!! I can't wait for this weekend and play along with some of the challenges that will be posted. Let the creativity flow and the mojo be hot :)
